Romantic literature is such that an author writes in an attempt to convey his feelings on what the world should be like. It is unrealistic, unreasoning, and imaginative writing. William Cullen Bryant and Edgar Allen Poe are two examples of romantic writers. Though Poe fits the mold of a romantic writer it is obvious that his writings do not mirror those of Bryant or many other known romantic authors. His works share a uniqueness that is not found amongst the other writers, it is this uniqueness that separates Poeââ¬â¢s works from the rest. Bryantââ¬â¢s poem ââ¬Å"Thanatopsisâ⬠is a good example of romantic literature. This work compared to Poeââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"The Tell-Tale Heartâ⬠will show that characteristics of Poeââ¬â¢s work that, both, make him a romantic writer and separate him from other romantic writers. à à à à à ââ¬Å"Thanatopsisâ⬠, by William Cullen Bryant, is a very romantic poem about the relationship between man and nature. Bryantââ¬â¢s purpose for this poem is to spread his belief that at the last hours of life man is joined with the Earth and when that last hour is over man will join all those who have passed before him. From the first two lines of the poem it is obvious that this poem is romantic in nature. ââ¬Å"To him who in the love of Nature holds ââ¬â Communion with her visible forms,â⬠(470). Bryant personifies nature in this poem by referring to it as a ââ¬Å"sheâ⬠. He does this to establish a common thread between the reader and Earth. It is easier for someone, reading Bryantââ¬â¢s work, to begin believing his ideas about nature if ââ¬Å"Natureâ⬠is referred to as a human being. Along with Bryantââ¬â¢s approach to the reader his description of the connection between man and nature is also very romantic. ââ¬Å"Go forth u nder the open sky, and list ââ¬â To Natureââ¬â¢s teachings, while from all around ââ¬â Earth and her waters, and the depths of air, - Comes a still voice-â⬠(470). In this quote Bryant begins to speak about how Nature offers comfort, ââ¬Å"When thoughts ââ¬â Of the last bitter hour come like a blight ââ¬â over they spirit..â⬠(470), through a ââ¬Å"still voiceâ⬠(470), implying that Nature speaks. As the poem continues Bryant brings out more of his romantic ideas. ââ¬Å"Earth, that nourished thee, shall claim ââ¬â Thy growth, to be rolvââ¬â¢d to earth again..â⬠(471) In this quote Bryant expresses his feelings that when life is over man will return to earth and become part of it once again.

Adolecsent Depression The suicide rate for adolescents has increased more than 200% over the last decade. Recent studies have shown that greater than 20% of adolescents in the general population have emotional problems and one-third of adolescents attending psychiatric clinics suffer from depression. The majority of teenage depressions can be managed successfully by the primary care physician with the support of the family, says Maurice Blackman MB, FRCPC. Depression has been considered to be the major psychiatric disease of the 20th century, affecting approximately eight million people in North America. Adults with psychiatric illness are 20 times more likely to die from accidents or suicide than adults without psychiatric disorder.[1] Major depression, including bipolar affective disorder, often appears for the first time during the teenage years, and early recognition of these conditions will have profound effects on later morbidity and mortality. Is depression in adolescents a significant problem? The suicide rate for adolescents has increased more than 200% over the last decade.[2] Adolescent suicide is now responsible for more deaths in youths aged 15 to 19 than cardiovascular disease or cancer. Recent studies have shown that greater than 20% of adolescents in the general population have emotional problems and one-third of adolescents attending psychiatric clinics suffer from depression.[3] Despite this, depression in this age group is greatly underdiagnosed, leading to serious difficulties in school, work and personal adjustment which often continue into adulthood. Why is depression in this age group often missed? Adolescence is a time of emotional turmoil, mood lability, gloomy introspection, great drama and heightened sensitivity. It is a time of rebellion and behavioral experimentation. The physician's challenge is to identify depressive symptomatology which may be superimposed on the backdrop of a more transient, but expected, developmental storm. Diagnosis, therefore, must rely not only on a formal clinical interview but on information provided by collaterals, including parents, teachers and community advisors. The patient's premorbid personality must be taken into account, as well as any obvious or subtle stress or trauma that may have preceded the clinical state. The therapeutic alliance is very important since the ad... ... should the patient be referred to a psychiatrist specializing in adolescents? Referral should be considered under a number of circumstances. If the physician cannot engage in conversation with the teenager because of the patient's resistance or the physician's own insecurity about dealing with this age group, then referral is suggested. This is particularly important if the depression is judged to be severe or if there have been some suicidal concerns. Referral should also be considered if the patient's condition does not improve in the expected time or if there is any deterioration or worsening of the depression despite adequate treatment. Improving Our English Vocabulary
Improving our English vocabulary Someone once said to me ââ¬ËThere is no tool of greater value than a dictionary when building your vocabularyââ¬â¢. And I must say that I completely agree with that saying. Undoubtedly, the best way to learn a language ââ¬â to immerse ourselves in the culture of another nation, living among those people who do not speak your mother language. Whichever way to learn a language we choose, the foundation of success is a good vocabulary. In Ukrainian schools it is generally recognized that the best way to learn words ââ¬â rehearse.Sure, repetition is necessary, but this is not the only tools available to those who study English or other languages. However, there are simple and effective techniques that significantly speed up the learning process and make it less boring. To my mind if you really want to learn English you have to find free time every day and make yourself learning something. We often lie to ourselves when we say that have no ti me for studying. Actually in most cases people say it since they just donââ¬â¢t want to feel guilty about skipping something.And Iââ¬â¢m not exception. Anyone can find time, just stop being so lazy! You can learn new word by listening to music, watching a movie or reading, you often come across a word you have never heard, or, seen before. This is the time to pick up a dictionary and learn an unknown word. Read the meaning and write it down. Periodically throughout the day, repeat the word to the point of redundancy. The word will become a part of your vocabulary. Another way to improve your vocabulary is using cards. I think everyone in his life tried that method.This method is really simple and common. But I think it gives very good results. Every time you come across a new word or expression that you would like to remember, cut out a square of paper, on one side write the English version, on the other ââ¬â Russian. You have to repeat the words throughout the day, at lea st five minutes, a few times a day, a week later you will see the results of their work. Words will get stuck in your head. Catching only a month, you will learn 50-100 new English words, and perhaps more. All depends on your perseverance.This method was useful for me to learn three forms of irregular verbs. The third way is the hardest for me but the most effective. Donââ¬â¢t translate into English from your own language. Always think in English to improve your fluency. Talk with someone who can speak English. Talk to yourself. But not in the bus otherwise people will think you have gone crazy! Another key to success is my associative method of memorization. I like it the most. It is suitable for people who work well with their imagination, creative thinkers.You take a thematic group of words, ââ¬Å"meditatingâ⬠on the words, making some association. For example, you study the subject ââ¬Å"cuisineâ⬠it means, you need mentally draw a kitchen, and put kettle, pan, cu p-board, sink, etc. at your discretion. Later, repeating the word list, remember where things stood. Curious way of remembering. If youââ¬â¢re bored with such methods you can choose you a cheerful one ââ¬â playing word games like Scrabble and Boggle will encourage your brain to play with words and letters, as well as learning new ones.If you play with an open dictionary, you can encourage people to try out words they might otherwise be afraid of using. Most word games are interactive, so you enjoy company while you expand your vocabulary. There are a lot of ways to improve language skills. But everybody must understand that nothing worthwhile is ever achieved without some effort. Finally, remember that you must practice putting your new words into your writing and speaking or risk not retaining them in your brain.

Child Observation Essay
I observed the teacher and what instructional theory she used and the five students in her classroom. Her students consisted of three four girls and one boy from what was shown in the video. Instructional Theory used: The instructional theory that was used by the teacher was that of Vygotskyââ¬â¢s Cognitive Development Theory. Description of the lesson observed: The teacher started out with clear instructions informing the students that they would be doing about learning new words. She started out asking the students ââ¬ËWhere is Squawker? â⬠she followed up her answer by guiding the answer. Once the students were aware of the question, they answered by saying that Squawker was under the umbrella. The teacher cheered them on and gave positive feedback at that fact that the children answered correctly. She then reiterated the question and the answer and had the students repeat after her. She then asked one student in particular to go and get squawker, who would be her handheld helper for the lesson, from under the umbrella. Her name was Page. The teacher then told the children that they would be learning some new words that were in the word box. She again asked Page to be her word helper for that lesson. She gave the students clear expectations of the lesson. She told them that she would say the word, which she did by spelling it out completely first then saying in in a clear, crisp tone. She asked Page to select the first word and hold it up for everyone to see. The children then repeated the spelling of the first word, lungs, and then they also said the word clearly. *I had to note, that Page did not spell out the word lungs with the other students. She kind of just mumbled the word. * She, the teacher, made sure to also say to the children to ââ¬Å"Lookâ⬠closely at the word card. The next word Page pulled out of the word box was the word chest. The teacher again modeled how to pronounce each letter of the word and to say the word. She had the students model after her the same exact way. Again I noticed how Page did not pronounce the word like the other students. The teacher then proceeded to ask Page to place the word chest on her chest so that everyone could see the word. Page did as she was told, signifying she knew what the word was. The teacher also at that time emphasized the action ââ¬Å"Doâ⬠. The teacher then had page pull out the picture of the lungs from the word box and place it on her chest. The teacher then engage the students and ask them how do we use our lungs, and elicit responses to see if the children had any knowledge of the content they were engaging in. The children showed readiness and ability to move forward with the questioning. She asked what is in the lungs and one child answered air. The teacher made connections to the environment by asking the children what else is full of air, and one child responded by answering ââ¬Å"a balloonâ⬠. The teacher applauded and gave each child praise when answering the questions. The teacher also emphasized during this portion of the lesson ââ¬Å"Sayâ⬠as she wanted to know that the children knew what they were saying as well. She had Squawker, her hand helper, to ask follow up questions to see if the students comprehended the meanings or the usage of the word lungs, and chest all of which each of the five children responded with clear meaning of the text. The teaching technique the teacher used was in line with Lev Vygotskyââ¬â¢s theory of cognitive development. Vygotskyââ¬â¢s theory actively involves children in his or her own learning process. His theory also implies that learning occurs before development. It was clear that the children had a base knowledge of the content that the teacher taught them, she just deepened their understanding of the material and the vocabulary. Vygotskyââ¬â¢s theory also implies that development is driven by the childrenââ¬â¢s enjoyment from learning and interaction with their peers. This interaction with peers and adults play a critical role in their cognitive development. The teacher actively engaged the children. She assisted in their learning by modeling the content, and she also used role play by allowing a hand puppet to be a part of the class as a helper.
