This essay analyzes Voltaires ideas on reform through his novel Candide. He is for reform and this essay shows examples of why. Voltaire uses satire to point out the follies in society during his time in order to help the community reshape their behavior and attitudes. He brings to view sin, selfishness, and religious intolerance that are created by the upper class citizens and religious leaders. Voltaire has an ideal society and government in mind, but he knows that it is impossible to achieve. In order to avoid misery, one should live life happily through hard work and honesty. Voltaire's idea of reform in his novel can be characterized as positive. He suggests the need for reform by revealing the evils in society, such as hypocrisy, especially in the name of religion and the arrogance of wealthy people.Throughout the novel, Voltaire attacks hypocrisy, most prevalent in religion, and displays the cruel actions of the priests, monks, and other religious leaders. When Cunegonde and Candide are reunited for the first time, Cunegonde tells him the most unfortunate story. This engraving is from Voltaire's Candide : it depi...First she was raped by a Bulgarian and was then held as a prisoner of war (Voltaire, 40). Later the Bulgar captain sold her, as though she was a commodity, to a Jewish man by the name of Don Issachar, who had to share her with the Grand Inquisitor (Voltaire, 41-42). Soon after, the readers find out that the old woman was also sold again and again. Voltaire is showing the immorality of every class and religion. This was seen twice in the novel to highlight the lack of human values. The old woman was also raped by the Moroccan pirates when she and her mother went on a holiday (Voltaire, 51). They were then taken to Morocco, where the Emperor's sons fought to win the old woman and some other ladies (Voltaire, 52). Voltaire tells us that during the bloodshed and rape, the...

6 Disappeared LinkedInî Partner Applications and What to Do About Them â⬠Part III Box.net
6 Disappeared LinkedInà ® Partner Applications and What to Do About Them ââ¬â Part III Box.net For a long time, I have been recommending to job seekers and other professionals that they use Box.net to post a copy of their resume (with street address and any other confidential information removed) to their LinkedIn profile. I have also offered Box.net as an option for attaching scanned recommendation letters when your recommender is not a LinkedIn member or just doesnââ¬â¢t come through with a LinkedIn recommendation. Box.net was a useful way to attach any documents you might want your LinkedIn visitors to view. Although the partner application for Box.net no longer exists, the website Box.net does- and my advice has not changed. If you want to post a document to your LinkedIn profile, the current way to do so is through entering a link to the document. In your Summary and Experience sections, you can add links to videos, images, documents or presentations by clicking on the blue box with a + sign in the corner. Once you click on that box you will be brought to a box where you can paste a link: If you donââ¬â¢t have a website where you can conveniently create pages with the documents you want to link to, just create a Box.net account! Box.net will give you a link you can use. Upload your document to Box.net, click on Share; you will receive a link to share the document. Here are the instructions sent out by Box.net regarding the change: Recently, LinkedIn announced its new profile design that replaces the current inApps platform with a new method for viewing content like documents, presentations and videos. You likely received a message from LinkedIn as well, but we wanted to be sure that as a user of the former Box inApp you know the best way to display and share a Box file on your new profile. After opting in to the new profile type, youââ¬â¢ll be able to easily add a specific Box file. To get started, copy and paste the fileââ¬â¢s direct link in the LinkedIn professional gallery on the page. Find the direct link by previewing the file as you normally would in Box, selecting File Options Share Get Link to File and then clicking on Direct Link to generate the URL. Paste it directly in the LinkedIn professional gallery. Repeat the same steps for other files youââ¬â¢d like to add to your profile. Note that the LinkedIn professional gallery supports a limited set of file types, so check the Box support site if you experience any issues adding a file to your profile. We hope you enjoy the new way to share your important files from Box on LinkedIn. Hereââ¬â¢s what my profile looks like with the resume linked from Box.net: What documents do you want to share with your LinkedIn audience? Social constructions of gender Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 5250 words
Social constructions of gender - Essay Example To some extent I think the major issue bringing about all these arguments is the fact that there is no proper definition of the term gender that each of the opposing groups can use as the base for their arguments in order to come up with the middle ground in the alignment of the contentious issues underlying the whole matter. Depending on the line of argument that has been taken by any of the opposing sides, the gender matter can be defined in two distinct lines of thought which of course tend to oppose each other bringing about the two antagonistic sides in the whole argument over the subject matter. On one side, some people define gender based on their biological origins and structure thereby categorizing them as either male or female, though another category of gender has recently come into play and is rapidly claiming recognition as far as the classification of gender is concerned. This third gender is the transgender which is mainly common in America and is a fusion of the two b iological definitions. A proper classification of the third gender as far as its biological orientation is concerned has not yet been devised, but it still cut across the two main ones (Dube, 2001). On the other hand the term gender has been defined on the social basis depending on the roles carried out by the two biologically defined gender categories. It is good to note here that the social definition fuses both the biological orientation of the two gender lines with the social roles assigned to each biological gender in the society.

Essay --
Hundreds of professional athletes across the world have been accused of taking performance enhancing drugs. The use of performance-enhancing drugs by professional athletes, or "doping", has been acknowledged as a problem since at least the 1960s. The first use of performance-enhancing drugs has been traced back to the first Olympics in Greece. Scandinavian mythology says Berserkers could drink a concoction prepared from a mushroom, to increase their physical power a dozen times. ââ¬Å"We have to make some radical move to get the attention of everyone. Cheaters can't win and steroids have put us in the position that it's OK to cheat.â⬠(Lou Brock, 2009) This quote describes how almost every professional player feels when they know that their opponents are cheating. Performance enhancing drugs should be banned and players should be punished more harshly because it leads to numerous diseases, young athletes would be tempted to take it, and players would be unpredictable and can ca use. Performance enhancing drugs are known to cause numerous diseases such as tumors, cancer, and can cause fertility problems. There are numerous cases of players dying or ruining their careers because they have gotten caught up in getting bigger and taking these drugs For instance in professional wrestling alone, 28 people have died because of PEDââ¬â¢s (All of these people are died younger than 45 years old.) (wrestlinginc.com, 2010). There are hundreds of known PEDââ¬â¢s. The most commonly used drug is steroids which gives you an increased risk of heart and liver disease. Players use this drug because it makes you have better endurance, it makes your blood flow faster and it makes you stronger. Another popular PED is Human Growth Hormone. This drug has been and still ... ...t these drugs are catastrophic and cause so many diseases and sicknesses that should not happen to an athlete. Athletes will be looked at as superheroes and children would not want to idolize a player that got to where he is because he did drugs. A child wants to look up to a player that beat the odds and worked harder than everyone else. If Performance Enhancing Drugs were legalized and allowed in all professional sports, there would be a lot of deaths, and player that have diseases caused by the drugs they took. Also High school and college players would begin to take it because they would feel like that is the only way to get to the pros. And lastly players would hurt themselves and their teammates and fellow players. PEDââ¬â¢s have a lot of potential but not yet. There are too many health defects and we do not want our ââ¬Å"heroesâ⬠to die from a disease caused by drugs.

Challenging depression: The go-to guide for clinicians and patients Essay
Dealing with depression Introduction à à à à à à à à à à à As a result of high rate of depression in the community, researchers wanted to find out how this depression can be reduced. To start it up he described depression as a resultant effect of physical stress. Many suggestions to deal with this subject were put forward thus making the researcher to come up with a hypothesis claiming that there will either be reduced rates of depression if depressed victims are subjected to physical exercises or there will be no effect. à à à à à à à à à à à Before coming up with above hypothesis it was noted that mostly depression affects you if you are idle or if small things build up in your mind for a long time. The main objective of research was to find out if physical exercise can overcome depression in away. To full fill this, a group of depressed victims were to be exposed to physical exercise. To know whether their rate of depression is reducing, their behaviours were compared to non depressed individuals. à à à à à à à à à à à To make his research successful, victims were required to fill in forms which reflected the level of activity and also to fill rating scales on thoughts feeling and moods. It was noted that one common behaviour different between the depressed and non depressed is the rate at which they smoked. Most none depressed though smokers did not smoke at high rates as opposed to the depressed. It was further noted that as physical training went on, the rate at which the depressed individuals smoked reduced. à à à à à à à à à à à Scientifically it is true that when a person subjected to physical exercise, endorphins and morphine chemicals are released in the body. Both chemicals trigger a good feeling in the body thus reducing depression (Zetin, M., Hoepner, C. T., & Kurth, 2010). à à à à à à à à à à à From above findings it was concluded that one of the cheapest ways to reduce depression is to subject depressed individuals to physical exercise. The researchers hypothesis that is physical exercise reduces depression that was tested against physical exercise can not reduce stress was accepted. References Zetin, M., Hoepner, C. T., & Kurth, J. Cosmetic Surgery Surgical And Nonsurgical Procedures
Cosmetic plastic surgery is surgical and nonsurgical procedures that reshape the normal body structure in order to improve appearance and self-esteem. Some of the most common cosmetic procedures are breast augmentation, liposuction, and rhinoplasty. Individuals with a healthy mind, positive outlook, and realistic expectations are appropriate candidates for cosmetic procedures. Plastic surgery is a personal choice and should not be done to fulfill someone elseââ¬â¢s desires or to try to fit into an ideal image. Teens under the age of eighteen should not be eligible to receive cosmetic surgery because they are not yet fully developed, may not be psychologically prepared, and are not completely aware of the consequences and complications involved with cosmetic surgery. During adolescence, young people are going through many changes as they begin physical maturity. Between the ages of twelve and eighteen, adolescents are developing and maturing. What may seem like a big nose at thirt een may change once that person becomes an adult. Operating on a feature that has not fully developed could interfere with its growth, and continued growth could negate the benefits of the surgery later on. Diana Zuckerman, president of the National Center for Health Research, says that, ââ¬Å"Growth charts indicate that the average young woman gains weight between the ages of eighteen and twenty-one, and that is likely to change her desire or need for breast augmentation and liposuction.â⬠If teens justShow MoreRelatedCosmetic Surgery : Too Far, Caused Her Death1408 Words à |à 6 Pagesis too far when it comes to cosmetic surgery?
